Origin of Name:
Located on the west side of the divide, named for the mountain, so called because of an Indian skirmish in the early days. Thomas Edison, the inventor of the electric light, was one of the early vacationers in Wyoming. While fishing at Battle Lake, near Saratoga, the frayed ends of a bamboo fishing rod gave him the idea for materials to use in the invention of the incandescent light.
