History:

Bennett Creek is located on the divide between Little Rock and Bennett Creek. About three miles northwest of Deep Lake is the Stockade, an unknown relic of the past which was presumably erected prior to 1870. This consisted of an enclosure approximately 50 feet in diameter made of huge logs laid up similar to those of the walls of a house. Between the logs notches were cut, apparently to serve as loopholes. The logs showed that were cut with some sort of axe or hatchet, yet only a portion of the work appeared to be that of a white man. There appears to be no authentic information by whom or for what purpose the structure was built.
