Bird's eye was surveyed by W. W. Peay for Bird's Eye Land Company, on April 26 to 28, 1907. With the Chicago and Northwestern railroad establishing train service at Shoshoni in 1906, Bird's eye became a way station for travelers between that place and Thermopolis. Birdseye Post Office was established on January 9, 1906 with Frederick E. Hagen as postmaster. It was discontinued on April 15, 1913 after which its mail was handled by the Shoshoni Post Office.
