Borie Railroad Station was named as early as 1884 possibly for A. J. "Andy" Borie. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a night dispatcher, chief train dispatcher of the Mountain Division and private secretary to the general superintendent in Cheyenne from circa 1876-1882.

Borie Post Office was established on February 28, 1895 with Martha E. Knight as postmaster. It was discontinued on February 14, 1901 and its mail then handled by the Granite Canon Post Office.

UP's mainline splits at Borie, Wyoming, 10 miles west (of Cheyenne) Two main tracks head west to Sherman (on the Sherman Hill grade over the Laramie Mountains), along I-80, as the old main. Two tracks also head south to Speer, with one track continuing west out of West Speer through Harriman. At Speer, the mainline to Denver heads south.

In February, 1910, Union Pacific Railroad announced that passenger trains would begin use of the Borie Cutoff from Laramie to Denver, bypassing Cheyenne.
