Boysen Dam is built across the Wind River in the Wind River Canyon above Thermopolis. Its scenic setting is almost as striking as that of the Shoshone Dam. The principal purpose of Boysen Dam is for power. Near the dam is a memorial drinking fountain which was erected by the State of Wyoming in commemoration of the building of the Wind River Canyon highway, one of the major feats of engineering in the Rocky Mountain region.
