A station on the Overland Route and Union Pacific Railroad between Ozone and Sherman. "From many points in the vicinity of Buford good views may be obtained of the high peaks of the Rocky Mountains far away to the left (south) and of the relatively low but rugged Sherman Mountains, a part of the Laramie Range, to the right. Two prominent points seen to the north are called Twin Mountains and are celebrated as one of the strongholds of the notorious desperado Slade. At Buford is the quarry that has furnished ballast for the Union Pacific from Omaha to Rock Springs, Wyo., a distance of more than 800 miles. The quarry is in the crystalline rock of the Laramie Range, known as the Sherman granite. At Buford this granite has weathered to a depth of 50 feet or more."
