Cache Creek and Canyon were so named because so many things were cached there along the trail in the early days by both white men and Indians. It is said that these caches included many ill gotten gains as well as those that were obtained within the law at the time. The trail up Cache Creek Canyon was a favorite one with the old time pioneers as well as early fur traders, trappers and Indians, on their way from the present site of Jackson to the head of Granite Creek and so on to all the high country around the headwaters of Crystal Creek, the Gros Ventre and the Green River.
