Origin of Name:

Camp Stambaugh was established on August 20, 1870, in what is now Fremont County. This fort was named after First Lieutenant Charles B. Stambaugh, who was killed near Miner’s Delight by Indians on May 4, 1870. Camp Stambaugh lies near the ghost town of Atlantic City.

History:

Camp Stambaugh Post Office was established in July, 1871 in Sweetwater County prior to the formation of Fremont County. It was discontinued in December, 1878 and its mail then handled by Green River City.
