In central Wyoming extending north and south for a distance of 35 miles. In the Oregon Trail days, known as the Black Hills. In 1865, when the name of the Platte Bridge military station was changed to Fort Caspar, the name of this range of mountains was changed by the soldiers stationed here, as was Dry Creek, to Caspar Mountains and to Caspar Creek. When the town of Casper was established in 1888 by the land department of the Chicago and Northwestern railroad company the town was spelled Casper, an ā€œeā€ in the last syllable, instead of an ā€œaā€. There are numerous beautiful parks and valleys in the Casper mountains, among them being Bates Hole which is a prosperous farming community.
