A postoffice near Crowheart Butte. Crowheart Butte was the site of a battle in 1857 between Shoshone warriors and Arapahoe, Gros Ventre and Cheyenne, whose despised the Shoshone for having made peace with the white invaders. Legend says that the Shoshone Chief once fought a duel on Crowheart Butte with a Crow Chieftain, that he killed the Crow, cut out his heart and ate it to augment his courage. Washakie did kill a Crow Chief in personal combat; there is no evidence, however, that he ate his enemy's heart.
