Formerly known as Campbell's Fork, and the large lake below its canyon as Dinwiddie Lake, after Andrew Dinwiddie, Lieutenant, 2nd United States Cavalry, stationed at Fort Washakie. On December 6, 1911, the United States Geographic Board changed the name of both the lake and creek to Dinwoody.
