Origin of Name:

Ditch creek was so named because of an old sluice ditch out of it dug by miners in 1879. The ditch is approximately six miles long and several feet deep in places and was dug with shovels. These old time prospectors were certain that they could get enough gold to repay them for so much hard labor. Ditch Creek is an eastern tributary of the Snake River. It rises in the highlands that border Jackson Hole on the east. Sometimes in dry seasons it does not maintain constant flow and dwindles away before reaching the Snake. At other times it is a torrent.
