Located on Wild Horse Creek. Named by a Mr. Wilson, early settler, who saw a wild horse along the creek. It is the Indian word for wild horse.

History:

Echeta Post Office was established as Croton Post Office on January 13, 1896 in Crook County prior to the formation of Campbell County. It was changed to Echeta on March 20, 1907 with Annie Tubbs as its postmaster. It was discontinued on January 18, 1945 and its mail then handled by the Gillette Post Office.
