Emmons Cone is one of the prominent landmarks in this vicinity. The cone lies on the northwestern part of the mesa of the same name and from its peculiar color may be easily distinguished from all points of view.

We take great pleasure in naming this mesa (Emmons Mesa) after Mr. Samuel Franklin Emmons, of the U.S. Geological Survey, who first collected the rock of the Leucite Hills.
