Named after Charles A. Guernsey who was a dude cattleman from Chicago, Illinois. Prominent in politics and active in the development of the state, Guernsey purchased the famous Sunrise mine from the original locators and interested Eastern capitalists in its value as a producer of high grad steel ore.

Guernsey Post Office was established in April, 1900 in Laramie County, prior to the formation of Platte County.

Growing town in the northern part of Laramie County. Present terminal of Salt Lake extension of the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railway and junction point with the Colorado and Wyoming Railway. Chicago, Burlington and Quincy roundhouse, extensive stockyards and sheep shearing pens. Considerable iron and copper ore are shipped from this point.
