Hamilton Dome is named for Dr. Hamilton, discoverer and first owner of the oil field nearby. The dome is seven miles long with 2,000 feet of closure, cut by several small faults.

History:

Hamilton Dome Post Office was originally established as Punteney Post Office in April, 1915. Its name was changed Hamilton Dome Post Office on July 30,1925. George W. Stewart was postmaster. It was discontinued on July 31, 1934 and its mail then handled by the Winchester Post Office. It was re-established on April 9, 1935.
