Name: Hole-in-the-Wall

County: Johnson

Authority Name:

Latitude: 433247N

Longitude: 1064840W

Elevation: 5525 Feet

Feature Type: Valley

Origin of Name: The name of this region came from a beautiful canyon through which winds a stream breaking through a wall of red earth near the border of Natrona and Johnson county. Who first named the site is not known; probably the name was given by a group of Englishmen headed by the Frevens who located on the Powder River in 1878. Since there is a spot in London known as "The Hole in the Wall", it is reasonable to suppose that these men named it for the location.
