A summer resort and postoffice on Douglas Creek, 56 miles southwest of Laramie, the county seat and banking point, and 9 miles west of Albany on the Colorado, Wyoming and Eastern Railway, the shipping point. Has rich copper mines.

Holmes Post Office was established on March 3, 1893 with John E. Holmes as its first postmaster. It was discontinued in September, 1896 but re-established on May 9, 1901. It was discontinued again on October 12, 1950. It operated summers only from 1947 through 1950. After the second discontinuation, mail was handled by Albany.
