Origin of Name:

Named for a pioneer hunter, Houston, who, with his partner, Cole, hunted buffalo and deer and sold the meat to miners in the Black Hills. Houston is said to have sold a load of meat and gambled away the money. The partners quarreled and Houston was shot and killed by Cole and his body buried on the creek where he fell. Thus the name.
