Kleenburn Post Office was established as Carneyville Post Office in November, 1904 and changed to Kleenburn Post Office in January, 1921. It was discontinued in August, 1933.

Carneyville is a coal mining town in Sheridan County, 9 miles northwest of Sheridan on the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railway. Location of the Carney Coal Company's coal mines, with an output of 14,000 tons per day.
