History:
The first settlers were Mr. and Mrs. Jonathon Hoops and two little daughters, who traveled by ox team from Utah, reaching their destination at the end of October 1872. One Indian scare came in 1879, at the time of the Meeker Massacre in Colorado. Woman and children were gathered in wagons and taken to Fort Bridger when a runner came across the mountains with the news, but after five days the terrified ranchers received word that the Indians had gone south instead of north. They returned to their homes, but not until winter set in did nervousness and fear abate.
