Origin of Name:

When the healing qualities of the hot springs were discovered, visitors came from many places to bathe. Miss Avery was hauled many miles in a wagon to reach the springs, and after several weeks regaining her health climbed to the top of a nearby hill and built a monument  of stones and people began calling it Monument Hill.
