Named after Thomas H. Moran who was an artist well known for his paintings of the Tetons. Thomas Moran came to Jackson Hole in the fall of 1879 to sketch and paint the Tetons. He states in his journal that the haze remaining from a fire was so thick that it prevented him from sketching.
