Settled in 1899. Town named by Thomas Sneddon, who was manager of the Diamond Coal and Coke Company, for his birthplace in Scotland.

History:

Oakley Post Office was established on January 19, 1901 in Uinta County prior to the formation of Lincoln County. Arthur M. King was the first postmaster. It was discontinued on July 31, 1942. Its mail was then handled by the Diamondville Post Office.
