Origin of Name:

Basil La Jeunesse, said to have been a descendant of Gabriel La Jeunesse, of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s immortal “Evangeline”, established a trading post in Sweetwater County in 1858. Basil La Jeunesse was widely known and was called “Cineneau.” It is from Cineneau that the Seminoe Mountains derive their name.

Seminoe Post Office was established in September, 1885 and discontinued in March, 1894. Its mail was then handled by the Ferris Post Office.
