Origin of Name:
A post office was established here in 1890, with John Frank Cross as postmaster. It was named for a natural object about a mile north of the town and on the south side of the Sweetwater River (See Split Rock, Natrona County).

History:
Split Rock Post Office was established on June 18, 1891 in Natrona County prior to the formation of Fremont County. Its name was changed to Splitrock in November, 1895 and changed back to Split Rock in May, 1909. It was discontinued on July 15, 1944 and its mail then handled by the Rawlins Post Office.
