Squat, massive, pine-blue Squaw Mountain bulks on the horizon. Long ago, say the Indians, a young squaw and her papoose were caught here in a blizzard. Sitting on a large boulder, the woman held her child close to her to give it warmth, and, when the storm ended after many days, moth and child were frozen to the boulder. The woman's bowed body became the mass of rock on top of the mountain.
