In the late 1870's, Apostle Moses Thatcher stood on a point of vantage overlooking Star Valley and saw that is was good. "I hearby name this valley Star Valley," he said, " because it is the star of all valleys." A story of opposite import asserts that the "star" was originally named Starved Valley, because the earliest settlers had insufficient food during their first winter there.
