An early coal mining town located 27 miles from Rock Springs.

The work of opening the Superior mines was started early in 1906. Considerable prospecting had been carried on in this region before this time, but no mining was attempted until the Superior branch of the Union Pacific Railroad was built up Horsethief Canyon. ... The Superior Coal Company was involved with four mines at Superior.

History:

Superior Post Office was established on November 15, 1906 with Horace L. Levesque as postmaster. On April 1, 1923, it was consolidated with the South Superior Post Office.

An incorporated town 25 miles northeast of Rock Springs, on branch of the Union Pacific Railroad. A prosperous coal mining camp employing one thousand or more miners. Is the second coal mining town of importance in Sweetwater County. In addition to coal, potash and aluminum are found. Union Pacific Coal Company Offices, Coal Company large general merchandise store and a bank are located here. Good church and school privileges. Population 1,500. Altitude 7,000 feet.
