(Note: There is a Pulpit Rock in Utah also along the Overland Route. "As the name implies, this rock bears some resemblance to a pulpit, and the story has been somewhat widely circulated that from it Brigham Young preached his first sermon on entering the 'promised land' in 1847" Source: Guidebook of the Western United States)

Table Rock, ... sometimes called Diamond Mesa, at the head of Ruby Gulch. In 1876, two old propectors salted the mesa with precious stones procured in Holland; then they took interested persons to the place, blindfolded, to see their great discovery. They managed to fleece such men as Horace Greeley, the Rothschilds, and Tiffany, out of more than $500,000 for a promotion  company. The fraud was discovered when a cook, with a geological survey party, kicked up from an ant hill a diamond that showed traces of a lipidary's tool.
