Origin of Name:

A sharp, needle-like peak, elevation 12, 298 feet, at base of southeast ridge of the Grand Teton, ... Grand Teton National Park, Teton County, Wyo. Named in honor of Theodore Teepe,a mountaineer, who lost his life near this point.

Teepe Pillar is a slender spear of red granite which rises from the south slope of the Grand Teton. “Teepe Glacier” lies between Teepe Pillar and the main peak. The pillar is very sharp and offers considerable difficulty to the climber. Teepe Pillar and Teepe Glacier were named in honor of Theodore Teepe who lost his life from a fall while descending the so called glacier which now bears his name, on August 4 1925. The so called glacier is really only a great snow field. Some years it melts almost completely away. Therefore it is not a glacier.
