Teewinot was formerly spelled “Tee-win-at”, the Indian name meaning “Three Pinnacles.” The latter name was applied by the Indians to the Three Tetons. It gave way to the French designation “Trois Tetons”, and was more or less lost sight of until recently when “Teewinot” was applied to an individual peak.
