History:
Tipton Post Office was established in January, 1892 and discontinued in March, 1892. It was re-established in February 1910, discontinued in September, 1917, established again in October, 1920 and discontinued again in June, 1922. At that point its mail was handled by the Wamsutter Post Office.

Stories:
Tipton was the site of the August 29, 1900 train robbery by Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch. The engineer was ordered to pull the express car ahead after it had been detached from the rest of the train. The railroad organized a special outlaw hunting squad to pursue the Hole-in-the-Wall gang.
