Origin of Name:

Creek, Fremont County, ... flows northerly and easterly to join Wind River ... passing through several lakes enroute, Washakie National Forest. Named for a prominent ranchman who was very active in Wyoming affairs at the beginning of the century.

Named after Captain Robert A. Torrey of the 13th Infantry. Captain Torrey was the first in command at Fort Washakie. Up Torrey Creek, taking the same road as to Torrey Lake Club but continuing past the lake, is Trail Lake Ranch. It is here that the trail starts back in to the glacier country. The trail was built by the U.S. Forest Service.
