Creating Pages
There are three ways you can create a new page in the Wyoming Place Names Wiki:
If you use method 2 or 3, when you save the page you'll see your new page name with a dashed line underneath it. Click on it, and it will open up your new page's edit box.
If you use method 1, your new page won't be linked to anywhere, so it will be tough for other people to find it. If you use the "New Page" button, after you create your page and save it, find another page you want it linked from and put your [Page Name] in brackets. For example, if you create a page with details about an blank appearance, you might want to put it on the blank page.
Editing pages
At the top left of every page, you will see an "Edit Page" Button. This will bring up the editing box.
You can use the buttons on the top left of the edit box just like you would in a word processing program to bold, italicize, underline, etc. These buttons will create your wiki syntax, a simple form of mark-up that tells the wiki how to display your text.
See Style Help to learn more about wiki syntax.
Creating headlines
One things the buttons won't do is create headlines. In wiki syntax, an exclamation point creates a headline, and more exclamation points create smaller headlines. Just like this:
!Big headline
!!Smaller headline
!!!Even smaller headline
Adding pictures
PLEASE NOTE: We have a lot of people adding pictures! Please give your picture file a distinctive, easily recognizable name! "Saratoga.jpg" is much preferred to "sara192.jpg."
You can add pictures by linking to an existing picture on the web or by uploading a picture file. Caution: photos and images on web sites are protected by copyright. We recommend you use .jpg, .png or .gif images if you upload.
Please see our Adding Pictures Tutorial
