Origin of Name:

Named for Elijah Nicholas Wilson. Before he reached his majority, he had the experience of sheep herding in southern Utah, adoption into an Indian tribe, pony express rider, and stage driver through the Idaho mountain passes.

Wilson was named for 'Uncle Nick' Wilson, the first settler here, who came to Jackson Hole in 1889. Nick spent several childhood years among the Shoshone and was the hero of H. R. Driggs' The White Indian Boy, or Uncle Nick Among the Shoshones (1919)
